Certified translation for procedures in Lisbon is prepared remotely and delivered ready for submission.
Lisbon concentrates embassies, consulates and the central services that receive foreign documentation. For that reason, many nationality, residence, qualification recognition and document authentication procedures pass through the city, even when the applicant lives elsewhere in Portugal. Certified translation for these procedures does not require anyone to travel: it is prepared remotely and delivered wherever it is needed. At GT-Traduções, we have worked this way for four decades, and now from our office in Loulé.
For that reason, before translating, we confirm with you exactly what the receiving authority requires. That step — more than the speed of the translation — determines whether the document is accepted the first time.

How we prepare a document for submission in Lisbon
Requirements established and document sent digitally
Before quoting, we clarify whether the procedure calls for standard translation, notary certification, CIOL certification or an apostille — and in which order. A legible photograph or a PDF of the document is all we need at this stage.
Certification arranged by us
The translation is certified by a notary, lawyer or solicitor, without your having to arrange the appointment or travel. At that stage we need the original document or a certified copy, which you can send us by registered mail from your local post office.
Delivered wherever needed
By registered post to the address you give us, in Lisbon or elsewhere in the country, and in digital form where the authority accepts it.
Do you have an appointment to submit your file?
Give us the date and we will confirm, before starting, whether it can be met — including the appointment time where an apostille is required.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to submit the document in person?
No. A legible photograph or a PDF is enough for us to quote and to translate. For certification, we need to receive the original document or a certified copy. You can send it by registered post, with tracking.
Is it safe to send the original by post?
Registered post is tracked and is the method clients across the country use to send us documents. If you prefer not to send the original, you may send a certified copy issued at a CTT post office.
Does the translation have to be produced in Lisbon to be accepted there?
No. A translation certified in Portugal is valid throughout the country, wherever it was prepared. What matters is the form of certification and meeting the requirements of the receiving authority.
Do you also arrange the apostille?
The apostille can be requested directly by the client at the Attorney General’s District Offices, normally by appointment, by post or through authorised third parties. GT-Traduções also provides this service where required.
How long does it take?
It depends on the document and the form of certification required. Where an apostille is needed, the timeframe includes the appointment with the competent authority, which we confirm with you before starting. In our quotation we state precisely how long we need to complete the work.
Which languages do you work with for official procedures?
English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Arabic and Mandarin, among others. Tell us the language pair and we will confirm availability and timeframe.
